Bowyers Exhibition & Lecture – 19 February 2013

A fascinating lecture from Tony Travers on governance of City of London, having stepped in at the last minute. It was the first link between a Livery Company and the City Business Library at Guildhall.

Deputy PM Speech – 18 February 2013

The first speech from Deputy PM to the City at Mansion house and it appears the intention is to become an annual event. Interesting topic to outline the need to strengthen the regions and spread from London!

Poulters’ Pancake Race – 12 February 2013

Held in Guildhall Yard before a capacity crowd, who had clearly been starved of quality athletics since the Olympics & Paralympics! I am pleased to say the Surveyors acquitted themselves well, with David Mann wining through to the finals of fancy dress, David Reynolds (the other one) winning through the finals of the Liveryman race and I won through to the final of the Masters Race & our St Paul’s won best fancy dress!

Old Bailey Lunch – 11 February 2013

I had been looking forward to lunch with the judges and it did not disappoint. Arriving we were taken to Sherriff Nigel Pullman’s apartment for drinks and thence escorted to lunch with the judges. The lunch was convivial and engaging. In the afternoon I sat in on Court 2 as apparently the subject matter for Court 1 was not to be faced on a full stomach! A treat and a half all round.

Past Master John Trustram-Eve Memorial Service – 1 February 2013

The one part I was always dreading in being Master was if one of our Liverymen passed away during my year. It was with great sadness we lost John who was generous and charming and a huge loss. The throng at St Lawrence Jewry heard readings from his family and tributes from Past Master Alan Gillett and Paul Frampton Chairman of Hythe Marina Association. Followed by tea at Saddlers Hall. A fitting celebration of his life but never really aids the loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with Pippyn and the family.

CEM Annual Award Lunch – 1 February 2013

College of Estate Management hold an annual awards lunch at Haberdashers Hall, usually in September of each year. Last years was delayed because of the Olympics and moved to 1 February. This year’s recipients were Ian Cullen and Rupert Nabarro in recognition of IPD. Worthy recipients and a splendid lunch.

Dyers School Concert – 31 January 2013

A magnificent evening at Southwark Cathedral with entertainment provided by four schools all supported by Dyers Company and which overlaps with two of our schools, St Saviour’s & St Olave’s and Archbishop Tennison. Hopefully it will become an annual event and we can get our Company involved.
