12 December: Fanmakers’ Banquet at the Mansion House

A magnificent evening by kind invitation of the Master Fanmaker, Patrick King and his wife, Mistress Fanmaker Britta King  in the company of The Lord Mayor, Fiona Woolf. The dinner was most enjoyable with a most thoughtful speech by Sir Peter Gregson, Vice-Chancellor, Cranfield University. We were guided into the Egyptian Room by Musketeers and Pikemen and post dinner, experienced a stunning rendition of the Post Horn Gallop.

11 December: St Saviour’s and St Olave’s School Carol Service

To Southwark Cathedral on a foggy, yet sunny December afternoon for St Saviour’s Carol Service. Amanda and I were warmly welcomed by headmistress Catherine May and the Dean of Southwark. What an afternoon! The quality of singing was beautiful, the girls interpreted the bible readings in a most lively way. I feel that the Christmas season is well and truly on us!

10 December: Arrival of the Royal Charter

An historic and memorable day for the Company! Past Master Laurence Johnstone collected the Royal Charter on behalf of the Company and delivered it to the City of London Club to celebrate its arrival. A formal event is currently being planned for later in the year. Thank you to everyone on the Royal Charter Committee!

6 December: Spitalfields Winter Festival: an evening of Vivaldi at Shoreditch Church

Mike and I enjoyed a fundraising evening at Shoreditch Church, marking the start of the Spitalfields Winter Festival

A wonderful evening of Vivaldi, together with the Lord Mayor and Masters. The object was to raise awareness of the area and to raise much needed funds for Shoreditch Church. La Serennissima, a world renowned ensemble, played Vivaldi, exploring two sides of his life and included excerpts from his unfinished opera Montezuma, sublimely interpreted by mezzo soprano Sally Bruce-Payne. A magical evening, which transported us all to 18th century Venice.
