Objectives

One of the principal objectives of the Chartered Surveyors’ Livery Company is to promote and assist with the education of young people.

Talent is evenly spread across society, but opportunity is not.

From attending careers events, supporting careers awareness in schools, making charitable donations, sponsoring Unifrog pages, providing university bursaries and facilitating careers mentoring, the Company aims to create opportunities that will shape the future of surveying.

Careers in Property

If you are interested in finding out more about a career in property we recommend the following resources to get you started.

If you are a mentor, or a student being mentored, we have resources available here.

University Bursaries

The flagship Chartered Surveyors Bursaries programme was launched in 2020 to help talented students from under-represented backgrounds to study for degrees in property and the built environment by awarding them £10,000 per annum, for three years, to cover university living expenses.

Bursary students also have access to mentoring and work experience throughout their time at university, together with pastoral support from our Education Programme Delivery Manager. In their final year of study the students are provided with one-to-one careers support and advice to help with securing employment in the surveying profession. This support continues to be available after graduation.

WCCS Pathways Report 2025-26

The Company is proud to support up to 30 students at any one time. Current students are reading for degrees in surveying across a wide range of universities, including Cambridge. The first two surveying students graduated in summer 2023 and a further eight graduated in 2024, moving on to employment in the profession.

The bursaries are funded by a wide range of generous sponsors, including the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, which has currently pledged £90,000 to support three students.

The RICS President said:
“I’d like to thank WCCS for organising this excellent programme, and the more than 30 firms who have pledged support so far. It is fantastic to bring together so many organisations to raise over £1 million to support underrepresented students in the built environment. This is a testament to the sector working collaboratively to provide better outcomes for students and welcome everyone with ability to our profession.”
